Kathmandu - Lhasa City Tour (fly in drive out)
 
Conduct your journey to Tibet with a spectacular flight over the snow capped Himalayan mountains past Mt. Everest, Malaku and Kanchanjunga. In Lhasa visit the famous Potala and Norbulinkha palaces, the great Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and walk amongst the crowded Tibetan market - the bustling Barkor Bazaar.Drive past the beautiful Turquoise lake on the way to the historic town of Gyantse with its unique multi-storied Kumbum Stupa.

Our itinerary also includes the famous but rarely visited Shalu and Sakya Monasteries. After visiting the Tashilungpo at Shigatse we start our drive over the Himalayas by way of the incredible Arniko Highway that connects Kathmandu with Lhasa. Enjoy fabulous Himalayan mountain scenery again - this time from ground level !! Once over the high passes flanked by a range of Himalayan giants we enter a land of lush subtropical jungles and rushing streams as we descend steeply into the Bhote Koshi Gorge towards Nepal. At the town of Zangmu on the Tibet-Nepal border we bid farewell to our Tibet friends and drive through the terraced countryside of Nepal to end our journey in Kathmandu. An unforgettable encounter with forbidden Tibet.

 
Total Tour Duration: 19 Nights / 20 Days
 

Day 01: Kathmandu (1300m.)
Pick up from the airport/transfer to your hotel. Time permitting, you may want to start exploring the capital city (local guides are available). In the evening, meet the group for dinner and a trip briefing.

Day 02: Kathmandu (1300m.) After breakfast, we set out for a guided tour of Kathmandu's holy sites, including Pashupatinath and Boudanath, before heading back to the hotel for lunch. The afternoon is spent making final preparations for the trip. Staff members can assist you in buying or renting any missing gear and you may check any unnecessary luggage. Group dinner in the evening.

Day 03 Flight Kathmandu - Lhasa, Drive to Airport for the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa on Air China. This one hour thirty minutes Trans Himalayan Flight will give you an opportunity to have an aerial view of the Mt. Everest and other Himalayan Peaks. Arrival at Gonggar airport around 14.00 hrs. Local time. After clearing immigration and customs it will be a two hour drive to cover the 93 km. to Lhasa which is situated at an altitude of 3670 meters. Upon arrival we check in at the hotel, right in the heart of the old city.

Day 04/05 Sightseeing, during these two days in Lhasa we visit the Potala palace, Drepung and Sera monasteries, the Norbulinka and of course the famous Jokhang temple including the surrounding Barkhor.

Day 06 Drive to Gyantse (3900m.), you begin your overland adventure with a full day drive to Gyantse. Along the way you cross the Kamba la (4794m) and the Karo la pass (5010m), both grant spectacular views. After the Kamba la you come to Yamdrok tso, also known as the Turquoise Lake.

Day 07 Drive to Shigatse (3800m.), in the morning visit Gyantse stupa and monastery followed by a two hour drive to Shigatse. Here see the enormous Buddha in the famous Tashilumpo monastery. The seat of the Panchen Lama.

Day 08 drive to Tingri (4350 m.), the journey today brings you over two high passes with fine views. For lunch we stop in the small town of Lhatse. Depending on how much time we spend during the morning in Shigatse we will stay overnight in Tingri where you will meet Nepali staff for your onward Journey.

Day 09 Drive to Saga (4450m): On the first long driving day over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, other things like lake, nomads chasing thousands of yaks and sheep keep you busy. By the late afternoon you will cross Bhramha Purtra River way to typical Chinese and Tibetan town, Saga for night.
Day 10 Drive to Paryang (4500m) 285 km / 8 hrs.

Our jeeps and trucks roll through the gigantic valleys following the various rivers through the grazing lands of yaks and sheep. The landscape is highlighted by snow capped peaks rising out of the distant sand dunes. Depending on the season, many Tibetan nomads and traders in traditional dress will inhabit this area. Over Night at Guesthouse / Camp.

Day 11 Drive to Lake Manasarovar (4558m) 298km / 9 hrs.
This is the longest driving day of the trip. By late afternoon the drive through the green pastures and huge valleys gives way to the first sighting of Mt Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. We will drive to Thogu holiest bathing gate of Manas. Over night at camp.

Day 12 Drive to Tarchen (4600m) 60km.
Lake Manasarovar (4500m) Lake Manasarovar is regarded as the most holy of all of Tibet’s many lakes. According to Hindu and Buddhist cosmology the four great rivers of the Indian sub-continent, the Brahmaputra, Sutlej, Ganges, and Indus all arise from the lake. It is said that Lord Vishnu floated in it for an eternity, dreaming, until the life force stirred, and out of the water’s infinite potential sprang forth all of creation. This day offers a wonderful opportunity to see the great lake Manasarover with mt. Gurula Mandhata (7728m) on south and Holy Kailash on the north. After bath and Puja drive to Tarchen via Chiu monastery and hot spring. Over Night at Guesthouse.

Day 13 Tarchen A day to prepare for the Kora (Those who are interested and fit can trek or ask jeep driver to take Austapad for Puja, please be ready for tips to driver for the extra work). We can readjust the day as per the needs.

Day 14 Drive to Tarboche (5 km) trek to Dirapuk (4800m).
Our first day of trekking around Kailash begins at Tarpuche. As we make our way along the route we pass numerous chortens as well as the sky burial site of the 84 Mahasiddas. We will also have wonderful views of cascading creeks, streaming water falls and the mighty west face of Kailash. We will pass the Chukku Gompa and 5 hrs later arrive at the Dirapuk Gompa where we will set up camp for the night. Total hiking for the day will be 15 km 7 hrs. Over Night at Camp.

Day 15 Trek to Zutulpuk Gompa (4790m).
The hardest but holiest day of the pilgrimage. We will cross through a rocky expanse dotted with stone cairns draped with the clothes offered by pilgrims as a spiritual sign of death. Gaurikunda is one of the holiest sites to view/ visit from the top. Further hiking brings us to the accent up to Dolma-La pass (5630m). After a nice break at the top of the pass we will head down the steep trail to our eventual campsite at Zutul-Puk Monastery (the cave of miracles where Milarepa meditated) Total hiking for the day will be 18 km 8 hrs. Over Night at Camp.

Day 16 Trek to Tarchen and drive to Manasarovar. Trek to Tangsar Tangmar and drive to Manasarovar Hor a 3 hrs walk brings us to where the river emerges onto the Borkha plain. Our jeeps will be waiting to transport us to our camp at Lake Mansarovar. Over Night at Camp.

Day 17 Drive to Paryang (277km) 7-8 hr.
Day 18 Drive Paryang to Saga (185km) 7-8 hrs

Day 19 Drive to Nylam or Zang Mu: (296km) 6-7 hr.
Day 20 Drive back to Dhulikhel or Kathmandu (163 km) 9-10 hr.
Day 21 Transfer to airport for your onward flight.
