However, the problem may arise due to the altitude and snow. It often causes terrible problems to cross the pass if it is covered by heavy snow. About four hours climb up to the pass marked by the chortens & prayer flags. As you reach the top, you are rewarded by the magnificent view from the top with another 4 hours trek will take to the holy town of Muktinath.
Muktinath means place of Nirvana and is home to the Muktinath temple as well as several monasteries. It is said that all sorrows you feel are relieved when visiting the Temple, which is a scared pilgrimage site to both Hindus and Buddhists. The main pilgrimage normally takes place in September. Guest feedback / testimonials
In August 2010 I have trekked with my son and a friend the Annapurna Circuit from Basisahar to Beni. We had a guide, Krishna Gurung., from Gokyo Treks & Expedition Co. He was everything one might want to wish in a guide. He was kind, informative and helpful. He smoothed out our travels, arranged tea houses, meals and most of all, he opened for us lots of otherwise inaccessible places: we visited Nepalese families, we talked to Lamas in remote monasteries about the Buddhism and Hindu religions, we saw Brahmins and discussed with them their religion, we visited a Tibetan health center and religious schools in remote areas on the trek. We even got the Nepalese 101 course for free. All these out of the ordinary experiences would not be accessible to an ordinary tourist without a guide. And finally, our guide kept us safe throughout the whole trek. I unconditionally recommend Gokyo Treks Co. for anyone seeking a safe and fascinating trip through Nepal. Trekking in Monsoons season had an additional plus: there were almost no tourists on the trail and no rain except for the last few days as we neared Pokhara. In most cases we had a trek and tea houses for ourselves.
As well, just around the time I was planning to go to Nepal several governments issued warning against traveling to this country. From my experience these warnings, while certainly made in good faith, trying to keep citizens out of trouble and reflecting the political situation on a large scale, did not reflect what we have seen while being there. My personal experience was that Nepal is safe and people are friendly. Though, of course, accidents may happen everywhere, and traveling on top of a local bus without the rail guard is like a roller coaster ride (I did not do it !!!)..
