In the Ann apurna range of the Central Nepal Himalaya lies Tilicho Tal (lake), at 4,919m one of the highest of its size in the world. stretching about 2.5 mile / 4km long and about 0.6 mile / 1km wide, it lies at the foot of the 23,400' / 7,134m summit of the same name, north of the grande barrier a 10km / 6 mile long wall of rock, ice and snow. This is a splendid summer trek, as rewarding as it is challenging. The Tilicho lake trek is among the finest which would be the best experienced in the monsoon time.
Starting point is Besi Sahar it is 6-7 hour-bus riding from Kathmandu. Following the Marsyangdi River for some days we reach Manang village. Here we turn west to the last village Khangsar, then pass Tilicho Base Camp on the way to Tilicho Lake, the highest lake of the World at around 5.000 m altitude. Instead of returning by the same route, it is possible to Cross a pass behind the lake and descend to Jomsom in the Kali Gandaki Valley.
